Holds are placed on your account to ensure you are prepared to register for courses each semester. Holds will prevent you from registering if they are not resolved. You can drop courses with a hold but you cannot register for future courses.
How do I Resolve a Hold?
You can resolve holds in the Holds tab or the Student tab on your BYU-I account. You will need to resolve each hold individually.
- Click “Resolve” and fill out the necessary information.
- If the hold is still there after completing it, click the orange “Refresh Holds” button and it should disappear.

Prepayment Hold
If you have a Prepayment Hold on your account, you will be required to prepay your tuition. This payment will need to be made to the Hold Account on your Personal Account Summary. Once you have prepaid, you will need to contact the Accounting Services at 208-496-9610 or email finances@byui.edu the same day so the Prepayment hold can be removed.

What can I do if can't get my hold resolved?
How do I resolve a PNSF Hold?
- A PNSF hold goes on your account after your bank account gets declined during a transaction. You must fill out a petition to get it addressed; after you do so, accounting will let you know what you need to do in order to resolve the hold. Be specific when filling out the petition and make sure you select the right options since there are three separate categories to choose from. Accounting will only look into the option that you select, so you need to be cautious and make sure to select the option that applies specifically to your situation. If your bank account is declined a second time, then you can no longer pay online or use e-refund for at least a year. After a year, you can petition to have the restriction removed.
