Setting Up DUO Mobile for the First Time

If you are a student at BYU-Idaho, you will be required to enroll in 2-factor authentication (2FA). For more about 2FA, watch our Introduction: Why 2FA? video. 

Make sure that you are off of the campus network when setting up 2FA for the first time or the BYUI network will automatically log you in.
1. Go to the Google Play (Android) or App Store (iPhone) and search "DUO Mobile"  Download the Duo Mobile app.

2. Sign in to your BYU-Idaho account. 

 iPhone Users: If you have content restrictions enabled, they will prevent you from being able to login with your device. Follow the steps in this article Disabling Content Restrictions to fix this issue.

3. After signing in you will be sent to a slideshow with information of why 2-Factor Authentication is important.

4. When you reach the page below click "Next"

4. Then on the next screen select DUO Mobile. 

If you do not have a smartphone, you can select Phone number to get text messege or a phone call instead of DUO Push Notifications.  Be aware that while phone calls and text messages cost BYU-Idaho money, push notifications are free. If you have a smartphone, we ask that you please use push notifications.

5. You will then enter your phone number.  You can also add tablet. If you do you will skip this step.

6. DUO Mobile will open and you will be asked to name the account. "BYU-Idaho" should be the default and is totally fine as a name.

7. From this point you should have access to use DUO Pushes to you new phone number device.

8. To test if it has been set up correctly you can try to sign into you BYU-Idaho account.

Managing Your Devices Enrolled with DUO Mobile

If you would like to add a new device, or delete an old one on your DUO Mobile account do the following.

1. Go to the Google Play (Android) or App Store (iPhone) and search "DUO Mobile"  Download the Duo Mobile app.

2. Sign in to your BYU-Idaho account.

3. When you reach the  DUO Screen below, Click "Need Help?".

4. After you have clicked the "Need help?" button, you will be brought this screen:

5. In the "Need help?" menu screen click "I need to manage devices".

You can also get to this screen by selecting "I got a new phone" and then "I got a new number".  The end goal is to get to your devices page.
6. This will take you to a screen where you will need to authenticate. If you do not have access to any of the authentication methods listed, contact the IT Service Desk for assistance

7. After you authenticate, you will be brought to your devices page and it will look similar to this:

8. From here click on "Add a new device"  and select Duo Mobile

Activating or Re-Activating DUO

Some times you may have deleted the DUO Mobile app and it is no longer sending you push notifications. One case can be is when you do that you will need to reactivate DUO. You will also have to do this same process when you get a new phone but keep your phone number.

1. Try to sign into BYU-Idaho Account

2. When you reach the  DUO Screen below, Click "Need Help?".

3. After you have clicked the "Need help?" button, you will be brought this screen:

4. Click "I got a new phone", DUO will offer to send them a text message (SMS) with a link to activate their account. Click the "text me a link" button

5. You will the receive the text message shortly after clicking the button. This may take some time depending on the strength of your mobile network.

6. When you receive the text message from DUO, Click the link that was sent.

7. After clicking the link, and if DUO is installed, it will open DUO Mobile and you will be asked to name the account. "BYU-Idaho" should be the default and is totally fine as a name.

8. From this point you should have access to use DUO Pushes to that device.
