Officially Withdrawing from BYU-Idaho
If you are considering withdrawing from BYU-Idaho, please be aware of the following:
- Charges: To avoid any financial penalties, be sure all your charges and past-due debts are paid (regardless of your enrollment status). For instructions on how to pay your charges see Making a Payment.
- Financial Aid: Please check with the Financial Aid Office before dropping your courses. If you withdraw after receiving financial aid, you may be required to pay back a portion or all of your financial aid. Once you have dropped the course(s), you can check your Financial Aid Portal and Student Account Summary for any changes in Financial Aid.
- Housing: Only BYU-Idaho students are eligible to live in BYU-Idaho Approved Housing. If you are no longer a student you must make other housing arrangements. For more information, see BYU-Idaho Housing and Student Living.
- Textbooks: Any books rented from the University Store must be returned. For more information, see the University Store Webpage or the attached PDF "University Store Academic Withdrawal Guidelines".
- Date Deadlines: Be aware of the drop, withdrawal, and discontinuance deadlines found at Academic Deadlines and Schedules.
- The Drop Deadline is the last day to drop Full Semester courses without receiving a "W" grade on the transcript.
- The Withdrawal Deadline is the last day to withdraw from individual Full Semester courses and receive a "W" grade and not the grade earned.
- The Discontinuance Deadline is the last day to withdraw from all Full Semester Courses and receive "W" grades in all Full Semester courses and not the grades earned.
- Please contact the Admissions Office at (208) 496-1411 AFTER completing the above.
Deferment Option
A deferment may be available as an alternative to withdrawing from the university. This option allows you to hold your enrollment at BYU-Idaho eliminating the need to re-apply when you return to the university.
- If you will be gone for a future semester and plan on returning to BYU-Idaho, please see Deferment Options. You may choose from these 5 deferment types:
NOTE: You must drop your courses before a deferment can be placed
