Health Insurance Info

Do I need health insurance if I am not living in Rexburg?

  • If you are living outside of the Rexburg area but within the United States you will need to provide proof of insurance. This can be done by answering the questionnaire found in the “holds” section of the student tab or by filling out the Student Health Plan Waiver. Insurance only needs to provide coverage for the area that you are currently living in.

Do I need health insurance if I do not live in the country?

  • If you are living outside the United States you will not need to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan. However, you will still need to contact the Health Center to let them know so they can remove the hold on your account.

Do I need health insurance if I do not live in the country and I am on my flex semester?

  • If you are an International student living out of the country during your flex semester, you will not need to be enrolled in the Student Health Plan. You will need to report that you are living out of the country to the Student Health Center Billing department. This can be done by emailing HealthCenterBilling@byui.edu. If you fail to report your status you could be charged for the Student Health Plan.

Why am I being charged for the Student Health Plan when I am off track?

  • Complete 📃Student Health Plan Waiver to avoid being charged for a health plan.

  • Student Health Plan/private health insurance is required even when off track. The only exception is when you are international student who has gone back to your home country.

  • For further questions, contact the Student Health Center (208) 496-9331

Do I need to fill out an insurance waiver?

  • You ALWAYS have to fill out an insurance waiver for EACH semester whether you are in Rexburg, online, doing an internship, or off track. If you will not be in Rexburg, you can have Medicaid of a different state. You will still need to fill out an insurance waiver and let the insurance department know you are not in the Rexburg area.
  • This also applies if you have insurance that only covers you in your home state but not Rexburg. You can waive the student health plan by filling out an insurance waiver.
