Do I need health insurance if I am not living in Rexburg?

  • All students living outside of the Rexburg area but within the United States will need to provide proof of insurance. This can be done by answering the questionnaire found in the “holds” section of the student tab or by filling out the Student Health Plan Waiver. Insurance only needs to provide coverage for the area that they are currently living in.

Do I need health insurance if I do not live in the country?

  • All students living outside the United States will not need to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan. However, students will still need to contact the Health Center to let them know so they can remove their hold.

Do I need health insurance if I do not live in the country and I am on my flex semester?

  • If International students are living out of the country during their flex semester, they will not need to be enrolled in the Student Health Plan. They need to report that they are living out of the country to the Student Health Center Billing department. This can be done by emailing HealthCenterBilling@byui.edu. If you fail to report your status out of the country you could be charged for the Student Health Plan.

Do I need to fill out an insurance waiver?

  • Students ALWAYS have to fill out an insurance waiver for EACH semester whether they are in Rexburg, online, doing an internship, or off track. If they will not be in Rexburg, they can have Medicaid of a different state. They will still need to fill out an insurance waiver and let the insurance department know they are not in the Rexburg area.
  • This also applies to students who might have insurance that only covers them in their home state but not Rexburg. They can waive the student health plan by filling out an insurance waiver.
