What do those OneDrive Icons mean?  Here's the skinny:

Cloud Icon

Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • File is stored only in the cloud, not downloaded locally.

  • Requires internet to access; clicking will download it temporarily.

Green Checkmark (Outlined)

Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • File is downloaded locally but may be removed later to free space.

  • Accessible offline until space is freed.

Solid Green Checkmark

Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • ​File is always kept on this device.

  • Guaranteed offline access; uses local storage.

Person Icon

Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • File or folder is shared with others.

  • Indicates active sharing permissions (view or edit).

Shortcut Arrow

Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • Indicates a shortcut to a SharePoint or OneDrive folder.

  • Files are not physically stored locally until opened or marked “Always keep on this device.”
