Microsoft's Viva is designed to enhance employee productivity by connecting them with their coworkers, simplifying access to pertinent information, and providing guidance and tips. Viva can replace corporate employee portals, older Microsoft tools like Yammer and Delve, as well as ongoing feedback methods like pulse surveys and performance tracking.   

Viva competes with offerings from vendors like IBM, Kudos, PeopleDoc, Qualtrics, and ServiceNow. However, it is not a fully integrated software solution; rather, it combines new interfaces (such as Teams apps) with existing technologies and overlapping acquired products. Additionally, there is no unified suite license available to access all the features named under Viva.

Viva Connections

Offers personalized news, discussions, and various resources within a Teams tab and on mobile devices. It serves as a user homepage and aggregates other Viva services.

Viva Engage

An app for employee engagement that features digital communities and discussions, integrates with Viva Connections and replaces Yammer, which was discontinued in 2023.  

Viva Insights

Delivers personal insights on productivity for individuals and teams via an app in Teams, catering to individual contributors, managers, and organizational leaders. This service, which replaces MyAnalytics and Workplace Analytics, is integrated into the Microsoft Viva Employee Experience Platform (EXP) suite. 

To access manager and leadership-level insights on workgroups or advanced personal insights, you need a Viva Insights license (US$4 per user per month*) or a full Viva suite license (US$9 per user per month*). 

Viva Learning

Is a Teams app delivering tailored training content to users, using signals from Microsoft Graph.

Offers a conversational interface using natural language to connect employee queries with responses from internal sources and crowdsourcing. Users must have a Viva Engage license.  

Cost: The service is only available as part of the full Viva suite, which is $9 per month per user. 

People in Viva

Functions similarly to Delve by leveraging signals from Microsoft Graph to uncover connections and pinpoint subject matter experts within an organization. Microsoft has enhanced this feature by branding it as “powered by AI.”  

Cost: The service is only available as part of the full Viva suite, which is $9 per month per user. 

Skills in Viva

Leverages data from Microsoft Graph and LinkedIn Skills Graph to aid organizations in understanding workforce skills and identifying gaps. It predicts users' unique skills and provides customized training recommendations. Currently in private preview, this feature requires a Viva Learning license. 

Cost: The service is only available as part of the full Viva suite, which is $9 per month per user. 

Topics in Viva

Previously known as Viva Topics, gathers content from internal sources like Microsoft Graph and Search. Utilizing machine learning from Microsoft Cortex, now part of AI Builder and SharePoint Syntex, it creates knowledge networks linking content, topics, and users, like Delve's features. Topics presents pop-up cards with info about tagged words when hovered over in any Microsoft 365 app and links to pages with more detailed information. 

Cost: The service is only available as part of the full Viva suite, which is $9 per month per user.  

Viva Amplify

Simplifies the creation, analysis, and management of employee-facing campaigns. These campaigns, distributed via SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams, aim to promote awareness and action toward a common goal. For instance, an HR department might use Amplify for an informational campaign about annual benefits enrollment. 

Cost: The service is available as part of the full Viva suite, which is $9 per month per user. 

Viva Glint: 

Is a “voice of the people” app that merges employee engagement surveys, comment analytics, and benchmarks, enabling management to understand employee feedback, facilitate team discussions, and execute action plans.  

Cost: $2.00 per user per month. 

Viva Goals: 

Enables organizations to align teams and individual users with high-level goals using objectives and key results (OKRs). This service allows managers to monitor and communicate progress via Teams, ensuring employees stay on course to achieve their objectives. 

Cost: Viva Goals is available for $6 per user per month, or as part of the full Viva suite. 

Viva Pulse: 

Is a feedback tool enabling managers to send Pulse requests to their team and review aggregated results once enough responses are collected.  

Cost: Only available in the suite.  $9 per user per month. 

Viva Sales:

Serves as an app to support sales activities. This tool seamlessly integrates with Outlook and Teams to gather customer information and sync it with major CRM systems, such as Dynamics 365 Sales, which the service encompasses. 

Cost: Designed as a productivity tool rather than focusing on employee experience, Viva Sales was rebranded to Microsoft Sales Copilot in July 2023. The service is priced at $40 per user each month* and is not part of the Viva suite. It comes included with Dynamics 365 Enterprise and Dynamics 365 Premium, and it also integrates with Salesforce.
