eBooks

  • Some courses feature digital textbooks ("eBooks").
  • Students are charged the first week of the semester for Auto Access eBooks, but they can opt-out and get a refund until Week 4 of the semester.

Accessing the eBook

The eBook is delivered through VitalSource and is accessible the first day of the term. The student's financial account will be charged automatically on the first day of class.

Access:

  1. Using Google Chrome (Safari browser will not work) go to Canvas / I-Learn
  2. Under Courses - select the course the ebook is for.
  3. On the navigation bar, find and click on “Course Materials” or “McGraw-Hill Connect.”
  4. Click the ‘Read Now’ or 'Connect Library' button. The textbook will open in a browser.
  5. If problems continue, contact the IT Service Desk.
IMPORTANT: McGraw-Hill eBooks and Connect (Homework Assignments) are bundled – students cannot opt out. It is required for their course.

Opting Out of the eBook

If you already ordered the print textbook, you may opt-out in order to receive a refund. You must opt-out by the current term’s Drop Date to receive a refund. When you opt-out, access to the Auto Access eBook will be lost.

To opt-out:

  1. Go to the ‘Course Materials’ within the course.
  2. In the square for the material you wish to opt-out of click the ‘Opt-Out’ button.
  3. Select a reason for opting out
  4. Once opted-out, watch for the email to verify you opted out. IF YOU DON’T RECEIVE AN EMAIL, YOU HAVE NOT OPTED-OUT CORRECTLY AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN REFUNDED.
  5. A refund will be issued within 24-36 hrs.
  6. If you later decide you need the Auto Access materials, you can go back to ‘Course Materials’ and click on the ‘Opt-Out’ button.
    • The student account will be charged automatically.

Students who opt-out will have access to the Auto Access eBook through Canvas until Week 4 of the semester. After Week 4 the access to Auto Access eBooks is shut off and those who opted out are not able to get back in.

Mobile Access for "Bookshelf" ebooks

Most of the time, ebooks open with no problem in a phone browser. However, some books are offered by Bookshelf.

If you are having trouble accessing a Bookshelf eBook on a mobile device, download the Bookshelf app and create an account there (it can be any credentials, not necessarily BYUI credentials).

You will have to establish the link through Canvas first before you can access them in Bookshelf.

If you are still having trouble accessing your Bookshelf eBook, contact the IT Service Desk.

Access for "Stukent" ebooks

For any access issues, contact Stukent Support. https://www.stukent.com/support/

Note: Stukent is a third party application and BYU-Idaho does not have the recources to assist.

If there is still trouble accessing your eBook or if you have any questions, feel free to contact the IT Service Desk.
