OneNote Notebook/Section Migration

OneNote Migration

The OneNote desktop app syncs on its own. It doesn't use OneDrive's sync tool. Make sure that the user is using their BYUI account and not a personal account using their BYUI email. If you do not follow the instructions below and migrate content a different way, you risk corrupting the data.

This is also the procedure for migrating a OneNote Notebook from a local machine to the cloud.

Procedure

Migrate Notebook/Section Procedure

  1. Open the OneNote desktop app.

  2. Skip this step if you are needing to migrate a section to an existing Notebook.

    1. Create a new Notebook associated with the account you want to migrate the old Notebook to.

      • It is recommended to do so by going to the users OneDrive on the Web and creating a new OneNote Notebook there.

    2. Go back to the OneNote desktop app and open the Notebook you want to migrate.

  3. Right-click a section inside the section and select "Move or Copy".

  4. Select to Notebook you are migrating the section to and click "Copy".

  5. Go online to new/existing Notebook and ensure the section went through.

  6. Once confirmed, migrate all other sections.

  7. Share new Notebook if necessary.

  8. Delete old content with users approval.

    • If you migrated an entire Notebook, delete the old Notebook.

    • If you migrated a section within a Notebook to the same Notebook, delete the old sections.
