How much is tuition?

• You can find current tuition rates at Tuition Cost or Concurrent Enrollment Cost.

• Tuition cost depends on the student type (Campus, BYUI-Online, or BYU-Pathway Worldwide) and the registration option you choose for an individual course. To see total cost per credit according to your student type, see Tuition Cost.

When is tuition due? 

• Tuition is due on the first day of classes each semester. Any tuition not paid within 7 days of the semester start will incur a one-time late charge of 5%. For questions, see Frequently Asked Questions for Tuition and Tuition Refunds and Academic Deadlines. 

How do I make a tuition payment?

• You can pay following the steps at Making a Payment. 

How often does the tuition rate increase? 

• Tuition rates usually go up each Fall semester (the start of the new academic year).

What is the cost of tuition for online students?

How soon after adding courses can I pay tuition? 

• It takes 24-48 hours for costs to update once new classes are added. 

Can I get my tuition refunded?

• For information on refunds, see Tuition Refund Policy. This site also provides instruction for setting up and receiving funds through eRefund. 

What is e-Refund? 

• E-Refund is the method used to electronically transfer any excess funds on your student account to your personal account.

Can I pay my tuition monthly?

• You can do a payment plan once a Past Due Debt is placed on your account. Payment plans are available to prevent your debts from being sent to Collections; however, students who opt for a payment plan will pay an additional 1% late fee each month. To request a payment plan, complete the Steps to Set Up a Payment Plan .  

Why do I have a service charge?

• Service Charges: All debts over 30-days past due will receive a 1% service charge every month on past due debts of $100.00 or more.

What is the tuition rate for online classes during a flex semester?

• If you take only online classes during your flex semester, you receive a $50/credit discount on your tuition for those online classes. This discount applies even if you are only enrolled in a single class, see Year Round Students.

• NOTE: Student teaching, student tours, internships, and audited courses (all distance classes) do not count as online classes. You will pay the regular tuition rate for all your courses if you have even one distance class during your flex semester.

What is a tuition waiver and how does it work? 

• Employees of any CES School (BYU-Idaho, BYU-Provo, BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Pathway Worldwide, and Ensign College) along with their spouse and dependent children are eligible for a tuition waiver. 

• You can find the waiver form and more info at Tuition Waiver. The waiver form needs to be completed only once unless there are changes or updates that you wish to make. Requests are approved through the Human Resources Office.

• NOTE: Dependents of general authorities and mission presidents also qualify for the waiver; however, the waiver is not currently available for online adjunct faculty or their families at this time.

What is the tuition cost if I am auditing a class?

• You pay full tuition as if you were earning credit for the class. 

What is the tuition cost if I am a Non-Matriculating student?

• You will pay the regular campus tuition rate (even if you take all online courses). Members and Non-members rates still apply. 

• If you are deciding between being an online student or non-matriculated student, the Admissions Office can help to explain the advantages of both student types.

Is there any tuition discount for FamilySearch employees? 

• FamilySearch employees who are approved and pursuing the Family History Degree have a $50/credit tuition rate. Please reach out to the Accounting Services Office if you have any questions.
• NOTE: Family history missionaries do not qualify for this rate.
