- Why was I added to this course?

First-semester campus students, including those with transfer credits, must register for BYUI 101 before any other classes. Students can choose their class day and mentoring time (these may appear as two separate times on their schedule).

If needed, you can swap to a different day and time instead of adding and dropping. However, dropping BYUI 101 requires dropping all other classes as well.

Transfer students should register for a designated transfer-only section (BYUI 101-A1 through BYUI 101-A8).
- Why am I assigned to take this class when I am not a new student?I am a campus student taking all online classes for my first semester, am I still required to take the course?
- Former or returning students who previously attended in-person classes on campus do not need to take BYUI 101. However, students who have only taken online courses must still complete BYUI 101.
- If you are living in Rexburg for the semester, you will need to take it and can come to campus for the campus portion of the course.
- If you are NOT living in Rexburg for the semester, please contact BYU-Idaho to have the course removed. (You will still need to take an alternate course in a future semester to meet the requirement to graduate.)
- I am a transfer student and would like to opt out of taking BYUI101. What are the requirements?
- Transfer students should register for BYUI 101-A1 through BYUI 101-A8, which are labeled with a blue note that says "Transfer Students Only."
- Is the BYUI 101 course program applicable for FAFSA?
- This course is program applicable for FAFSA as a General Education requirement.
- Is there a block option for this class?
- No, if a this is your first on-campus course is a block class, then you must take an alternate course to fulfill the requirement.
- I have a BYUI 101 Drop Prevention hold. What does that mean?
- This hold only prevents you from dropping the course. It does not prevent you from registering for other classes!
- If the class has been removed, you will still have the hold. This is not an issue (as it does not prevent anything) and will eventually be taken off later in the semester.
- Waitlist and Swapping Rules
- There is no waitlist for BYUI 101. Students must register for an open section. After 8 days into the semester, students cannot swap their section without professor approval.
- Can international students take additional online courses alongside the BYUI 101 course, since it is listed as an online class?
- Yes, international students can take additional online courses alongside BYUI 101.
- Can current Concurrent Enrollment students take BYUI101?
- No, concurrent enrollment students cannot take BYU101.
- Exceptions may apply; see below.
- BYUI101 Course Structure and Gathering Times
- You will attend in-person meetings throughout the semester.
- These will begin in week 2 of the semester.
- A variety of time slots (4-5) will be available for you to choose from. Once the course is listed in Canvas, you can sign up for your preferred gathering time.
- If the available times do not fit your schedule, you can:
- Work with their peer mentor to find a suitable alternative.
- Be assigned to another gathering group if necessary.
- If I need to Retake BYUI 101 can I do that?
- If a student fails BYUI 101, they cannot retake it and must complete a college success course later instead.
Exceptions
- I am a transfer student. Do I need to take this course?
- Transfer students may be eligible for a🖱️Transfer Student Exemption Application.
- ⚠️ Ensure you read, understand, and complete all requirements before submitting the application for consideration.
- Deadline to drop out is the same as all other courses
- I am a campus student taking all online classes for my first semester. Am I still required to take BYUI101?
- If you are living in Rexburg, you need to take the course and attend the on-campus portion.
- Weekly gathering sessions are 30-45 minutes.
- OR weekly Adventure, which can be done remotely.

- I'm already familiar with the university, do I still have to take BYUI101?
- Yes, if it’s your first semester attending on campus, you are required to take BYUI101 as it fulfills a graduation requirement.
- This also applies to returned missionaries admitted before BYUI101 was created and former or no-show students who have re-applied.
- I want to be in a different section/class, can I change it?
- No, the course is designed to build new connections with other BYUI students.
- This isn't my first semester on campus, can I still take this course?
- No, the course is designed for first-semester students only.
- I've taken classes on campus before, but not full-time. Do I need to take this class?
- No, if it’s not your first semester attending on campus, you can take a replacement course.
- Exception: former Concurrent Enrollment students attending their first semester admitted as campus students are required to take BYUI101.
