Transferring Credits

Transfer Credits from Other Schools

  • Transfer Credit must come from a regionally accredited institution and pass with a C- or higher.
  • Transfer work is not calculated into your BYU-Idaho GPA. Any coursework older than 10 years may only be accepted as elective credit.

Transfer Credits from BYUI to Other Schools

  • If sending transcripts to another Institution (not CES), yourself, or a third party, see Transcript Request. You will be asked if you attended Ricks College/BYU-Idaho before 1983. Please answer as applicable to you.
  • The next part of the question will ask where you would like to send your transcript. Be sure to click "Select" under "Other Recipients" and proceed to the end as prompted. Prices will vary based on the delivery option you choose, see Paper and Electronic Transcripts.

Note: If you are sending transcripts for the first time you will be directed to create an account in the transcript ordering portal.

Transfer Religion Credits

Religion classes from Institutes and other Church Education System (CES) schools will only be accepted under the following conditions:

  • Course number is 100 or above.
  • Must be taken for Church University credit (if the course was taken through the Institute)
  • Must be on an official college transcript (if the course was taken through another CES school such as BYU, BYU–Hawaii, Ensign College, or BYU–Jerusalem).
  • An official transcript must be sent directly from the Institute or the CES school to receive consideration for transfer credit.
  • For more information see My Transfer Credit

Vertical Credit

  • Subject to department chair approval, degree-seeking students who have earned a grade of “C” or better in a course taken at BYU–Idaho, for which there is prerequisite course(s) they have not taken, may be given credit and a “pass” grade for the prerequisite course(s). The vertical credit will be applied to the same semester in which the qualifications were met.
  • Although vertical credit counts toward total credit requirements for graduation, no grade is given toward GPA computation.
  • To apply, students must consult with the appropriate department chair. If approved, an application is available through Student Records and Registration where a credit fee will be assessed. The fee is $15 for 0.5 to 3.0 credits, with an additional $5 per credit thereafter.”

Military Transfer Credits

  • BYU–Idaho awards military credit based on the American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations found in the Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services. For more information visit the Transfer Evaluation-Military Credits Website.

Foreign Language Credits

Placement in foreign language classes is solely dependent on your personal proficiency level. However, some general guidelines can help you get into the right class. If the class has a prerequisite, contact the course instructor directly for authorization to register for the class. For information on the available languages we teach, Language Exams has more information.
