Minors

What is a minor?

  • It is a second area of interest or specialization beyond a college major.
  • Minors are usually from 20-25 credit hours

What minors are available?

When should I declare a minor?

  • You can declare a minor at any time but if a minor is not required for your degree, you cannot add it if it will put you over 120 credits. 

Why declare a minor?

  • It can be used to study something completely different than your declared major. 
  • Examples being playing a musical instrument or learning a foreign language.

How to apply for a minor?

Why can't I add a minor if it puts me over 120 credits when I can earn a max of 140? 

  • Those extra 20 credits are in cases where a student changed their degree and needs to earn more than 120 credits to graduate with their new major. Students are not allowed to fill those extra credits when it is not a degree requirement they are meeting. 

Clusters

What is a cluster?

  • It is a set of related courses in a specific academic discipline
  • Clusters are usually 12-15 credit hours
