BYU-I OneDrive vs Personal OneDrive
Determine which account is being used, and the differences between the two.
Which Am I Using?
To check if you are using the correct OneDrive account, examine the URL. Your BYU-I OneDrive account will show the following URL:
https://webmailbyui-my.sharepoint.com/personal/<YourUserNameHere>_byui_edu...
NOTE: If you are having issues with a OneDrive account that does not show the URL above when accessed through the web, BYU-I support will not be able to help with any issues you may have related to that account. Please contact Microsoft Support.
BYU-I OneDrive
This OneDrive account is provided for you by BYU-Idaho. You can utilize this 1TB of storage space as soon as you have access to your BYUI email. That is equal to all 127 hours of the Harry Potter audiobooks saved in MP3 format 134 times, or over 4 million essays.
This OneDrive account is often referred to as OneDrive for Business, Student OneDrive, and BYU-I OneDrive.
NOTE: Before leaving BYU-I, please transfer your BYU-I OneDrive files to a personal storage location, as your BYU-I OneDrive account will be deleted. For more information, see When will my BYU-I OneDrive be deleted.
Personal OneDrive
This OneDrive account is associated with a personal Microsoft account, which can be created by anyone. You will not want to use a personal OneDrive account as it is limited to only 5-10GB of storage space, can create issues when sharing with other BYU-I users, and the BYU-I Support Center will not be able to support any issues that may arise while using a personal OneDrive account. All support requests must be made through Microsoft.
This OneDrive account is often referred to as OneDrive Personal or personal OneDrive.
NOTE: A personal Microsoft account may be created using a BYUI email. This can easily create confusion to whether a personal Microsoft account or BYU-I account is being used. To change an associated email, see Switching from Personal OneDrive to BYU-I OneDrive.
