There are lots of functions the Outlook Desktop can do. Select the section you want to learn more about.
For instructions on how to combine school and personal email see the article Setting Up Email on a Mobile Device.
Texting from Email
If you need to get a message to someone who might not have access to their email, you can text them from your own email.
1. Open Outlook.
2. Click New Email or New Message to compose a new draft.
3. Enter the recipient’s ten-digit cell phone number in the To: field, followed by the @ symbol.
4. After the @ symbol, add the recipient’s cell phone carrier. See below for a list of cell phone carriers and their matching @ addresses.
- Sprint: messaging.sprintpcs.com
- AT&T: txt.att.net
- Qwest: qwestmp.com
- T-Mobile: tmomail.net
- Verizon: vtext.com
- Virgin: vmobl.com
- Nextel: messaging.nextel.com
- Alltel: message.alltel.com
- Metro: mymetropcs.com
- Powertel: ptel.com
- Boost: myboostmobile.com
- Suncom: tms.suncom.com
- Tracfone: mmst5.tracfone.com
- U.S. Cellular: email.uscc.net
5. Type a short message in the body of the email. (A long message might be delivered in a barrage of multiple texts.)
6. Click Send. Your email will now be delivered as a text on the recipient’s cell phone.
Faxing from Email
1. Click New Email just like sending a regular email.
2. In the "To" section, enter the fax number followed by @fax.byui.edu.
When entering the fax number:
- Do not put an “8” or a “1” at the start of the phone number. Input only the phone number itself.
- Do not use parenthesis “( )” to surround the Area code.
- Do not put a space anywhere in the number.
3. Type the message you would like faxed. If you would also like to include a file (document or image) in the fax, add it as an attachment. The body message will go through in the first page of the fax, and then the file you attached will come through on the next pages.
Faxing From a Printer: Faxing can also be done using a multifunction printer (copier) on Campus. Simply address the To: in a Scan to Email the same way you would in Outlook for sending a Fax and let it scan your document. The scan will be included in the Fax.
Delaying Email
1. For the email you want to delay, expand the Tags section by clicking the arrow in the corner.
2. Select Do not deliver before and enter the date and time you want the email to be sent. Click Close when done.
3. Click Send to send the delayed email.
