“Someone Already Signed In” Error on OneDrive

In this instance, a user most likely does not have all of the Windows and Microsoft Office updates.


Procedure

1. Make sure the user has all the Windows updates downloaded and installed:
    a. Go to the start menu.

    b. Search for and select “Check for updates”.

        i. If nothing pops up, go to Settings > Update and Security.

    c. Select “Check for updates”. Wait for all to download and install.

    d. Select “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update”, and then wait for all to download and install.

    e. Repeat the previous two steps until there are no more updates.

    f. Restart the computer.

Note: If the updates will not download or keep failing, please contact (208) 496-1411 and submit a ticket to the Help Desk.

2. Check if this has resolved the issue.
    a. Exit OneDrive by right-clicking the blue cloud icon on the toolbar at the bottom-right of your screen and selecting "Close OneDrive".


    b. Open OneDrive. You can do this by searching for OneDrive in the start menu.

    c. Try to replicate the error.

    d. If you still keep seeing the “Someone Already Signed In” error, continue on with the steps.

3. Make sure the user has all the Office updates downloaded and installed.
    a. Open Word > File > Account.

    b. Under the Office Version information, click “Update Office”.

        - Note: If the update will not download or keeps failing, follow the steps in this article to download your Office update manually:

4. Wipe Microsoft and OneDrive credentials to reset saved passwords.
    a. 
Close all Microsoft applications and completely close out OneDrive by following Step 2a.
    b. Open the start menu and type “credential”, then select “Credential Manager”.

    c. Select “Windows Credentials”, then click on each Microsoft or OneDrive credential and click “remove”.

    d. Log back into Microsoft and OneDrive. Verify that OneDrive is still actively syncing user’s documents and files.
