| Before opening, viewing, or releasing any of your blocked or quarantined emails, remember that there is a reason that they were marked that way and that you should use extreme caution to prevent any potential security risks. |

We've partnered with Microsoft Office 365's Exchange Online Protection (EOP) to automatically quarantine highly-suspicious messages at the server level before they even reach your Inbox or Junk E-mail folder. You will occasionally receive a message (we have them set to deliver up to every four hours) from quarantine@messaging.microsoft.com indicating that you have X (number) of new spam-quarantined messages. (To quickly access your Quarantine at any time, simply navigate to security.microsoft.com/quarantine)
You will be given the following three options for each email:

Review Message
If you click the blue "Review Message" button, you'll be directed to a web page that will give you more choices:

Release email
View message headers
Preview message
Delete from quarantine
Block sender
Release
This sends the message to your regular inbox. This is usually used to review the message in more detail to determine whether it's something that you want to continue to allow us to quarantine, whether you can safely unsubscribe from the message, or whether you want to report to us that it is not - in fact - junk.
Block Sender
- Blocks the sender at the mailbox level based on that quarantined message
- Typically adds the sender to your blocked senders list (Outlook/Exchange)
- Helps prevent similar messages from reaching your inbox going forward
Report as Not Junk
This sends a copy of the message to the support team for analysis. If you're certain that the message should not have been quarantined - based on your review of the Sender and Subject from the report and/or from having used the "Release to Inbox" link to review it in more detail - this is how you'd let us know that you don't want these messages quarantined in the future.
"This client requires a certificate"
If you're on a Mac using Safari as your default browser, you may need to make a change to a certificate in order to avoid the "This client requires a certificate" message. Here's a Microsoft Support article explaining how to do that.
Reviewing Quarantined Emails
- In a quarantine notification email, follow the link to the Security and Compliance Center or go to https://security.microsoft.com/quarantine
- On the review page, click the "Quarantine" option to review your quarantined messages.
- Once in the quarantine portal, you can act on the messages using the following 3 options:
- preview

- release

- or delete

If you are having trouble using the quarantine portal on Safari, follow these steps.
Editing Quarantine Settings
- You can edit your Safe Senders and Domains in Outlook Web by clicking here.
- Verify that you're on the Junk email tab and scroll down to the Senders section to find "Safe senders and domains".
- Click the "+ Add safe sender".
- Type the domain or email address then click OK.
| Note: marking the checkbox "Trust email from my contacts" will treat emails from any addresses in your contact lists as safe. By default, all contacts in the university's Global Address List are treated as safe senders. In other words, there's no need to add any @byui.edu addresses here as they're all considered safe. |
