Body
A deferment is a temporary change that lets you skip an on-track semester without losing your admitted status. It’s for students who can’t attend their scheduled semester but want to return in the future without reapplying.
When is a Deferment Needed?
If you can’t attend an on-track semester, submit a deferment request through the 💻 Deferment Options page to maintain your admitted status. There are several deferment types available to accommodate your specific situation, so be sure to review the options on the page.
General Guidelines:
- You can start the deferment process one semester prior to the semester you wish to defer. To begin, visit the 💻Deferment Options page.
- Once submitted, you should hear back from the Admissions Office in 3-5 business days.
- The deferment deadline aligns with the 💻 Academic Deadline for the semester you are deferring.
- After a deferment ends, the system should automatically allow you to register for future semesters and maintain your assigned track.
Campus Students
- No deferment is needed for flex-track semesters or Summer Session.
- If you withdraw during an on-track semester and receive W grades in all classes, you’ll need to request a deferment.
- If you complete any credits in an on-track semester, no deferment is needed.

Deferment General FAQ
Why is my deferment showing for the wrong semester?
- Deferments are processed based on your next on-track semester, not flex-track semesters.
- If you are having issues with the deferment date, please contact the Admissions Office for assistance.
Will my holds prevent me from Deferring?
- Certain holds, such as a Continuing Student Endorsement Hold or a Past Due Debt Hold, can prevent your deferment from being processed.
- Please resolve these holds before submitting a deferment request. If you have any issues, contact the Admissions Office at 208-496-1411.
Can I request more than one deferment?
- Deferments can be requested as needed, though certain conditions apply for specific types of deferments (e.g., missionary deferments).
- For assistance with multiple deferments, please contact the Admissions Office at 208-496-1411.
