Body
Audience: BYU-Idaho full-time faculty and staff who want a paid ChatGPT subscription through the Church Educational System (CES).
Prerequisites: An active BYU-Idaho employee account. Students, student employees, and adjunct faculty do not qualify — see the Note below.
| Note: The Church Educational System (CES) has a limited pool of paid ChatGPT Edu subscriptions available to qualifying BYU-Idaho employees. Because of these limits, students (including student employees) and adjunct faculty — both online and on-campus — do not qualify for a paid subscription. |
How to Request a License
To get access to CES ChatGPT, fill out the request form:
- Go to https://genai.byu.edu/obtaining-a-chatgpt-edu-license.
- Click the blue Apply for a ChatGPT Edu License Here button.
- You will be directed to a Microsoft Form. Read each question and click the button confirming that you understand and agree.
- When the form asks for your "CES Institution NetID or Username," enter your User Principal Name (UPN) — formatted
username@byui.edu — not your lastname+initial@byui.edu email address. If you are unsure which is which, see Which Identifier Do I Enter to Sign In? (UPN vs. Email at BYU-Idaho). For example:
- Name: Thomas Ricks
- Email: rickst@byui.edu <- Wrong
- Username: tomricks1888 <- Wrong
- User Principal Name (UPN): tomricks1888@byui.edu <- Correct: This is what you use as your "NetID or Username" on the request form
- Select BYU-Idaho as your institution and complete the remaining questions.
What Happens Next
If a license is available, CES will notify you by email within 24–48 hours that your CES ChatGPT Edu license has been provisioned. Once you receive that confirmation, you can sign in to ChatGPT with your BYU-Idaho credentials.
