Body

What is a Track Assignment?

One of three track assignments is given to campus students when they Accept Their Offer to BYU-Idaho. You can find more information on the Three Track System site.

Campus students can find their assigned track by logging in at my.byui.edu and selecting the "Add/Drop Courses" option under "Registration Links." Once on the registration page, click the student tab on the left side of the screen. The track assignment will appear on the right under the Academic Summary section.

Note: Online students do not have an assigned track and can take courses during all semesters.

Can I Change My Track Assignment?

For any track changes or questions, please contact the Admissions Office at (208) 496-1300 or via email at admissions@byui.edu 🙂.

Here are some circumstances in which you may receive immediate approval from Admissions for a track change:

  • 🍁 Fall to Spring or Winter to Spring: Switching from Fall-Winter to any Spring track is allowed.
  • ♨️ Switching Between Spring Tracks: Switching from one Spring track to another is allowed.
  • 💍 Married Students:
    • If you are married (not engaged) and have already updated your marital status, you may be eligible for a track change.
    • If you haven’t updated your marital status yet, you’ll need to do so before speaking with Admissions. See 📃 Changing Your Marital Status for more details.
  • 🎖️ Military or Medical: If you are serving in the military or have medical concerns that impact your ability to follow your assigned track, please contact Admissions for guidance.
  • Program-Specific Requirements: Some programs may require track changes once students reach a certain point in their studies. If a student is unable to finish their program on their current track, they should contact Admissions.

Managing Your Enrollment

You may occasionally need to take a semester off or prefer to attend during a flex-semester. Here’s how you can manage your enrollment:

  • Campus Students: Most campus students can easily manage their track using deferments, overrides, and online study. For more info, see Year-Round Enrollment Options.
  • Online Students: Online students do not have an assigned track. They can miss up to two semesters in a row without needing to reapply. If you wish to skip more than two semesters, you’ll need to defer your enrollment. For more information, see Deferment Options.

Track Assignment FAQ

  • What is the track decision process?
  • How long does it take to receive a track assignment?
    • The Admissions Office cannot promise a specific time frame for receiving your track assignment, as this can range from days to months, depending on your major and when you submitted your application. Music applicants have their track assignments managed by the Music department.
  • Why does BYU-Idaho use the three-track system?
    • The three-track system allows BYU-Idaho to admit more students than the campus can accommodate at one time, providing greater enrollment flexibility. The system ensures that all three tracks maintain a balanced enrollment. See the Three Track System website for more details.
  • How do international students receive their track assignment?
    • International students should receive their track assignments in time for visa processing.
