General Parking 

Where do I request a student parking pass?

  • Request your parking pass today at Student Express. Parking Passes will be available for pick up through Student Express at the Manwaring Center 176A. For more information on parking, see Parking Services.

Where can I find the latest parking information? 

When are parking permits enforced?

  • Parking rules are enforced the first day of each semester.

When are permits enforced?

  • Permits are required from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • Parking on campus is prohibited between 1:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m., excluding students with Long Term permits. 
  • All other times, permit parking will not be enforced. 

Is there free parking on campus? 

  • Only if you are a visitor, community patron, or have a handicap permit. 
  • Students and Faculty are not considered visitors. 

Is there anywhere I can't park with a handicap permit? 

  • You can park anywhere on campus except for visitor stalls, service stalls, time stalls longer than the time limit, and stalls reserved for campus vehicles. 
  • The need for a pass is waived, but you still have to follow the parking rules and regulations. 

How can I contact Parking Services? 

Where can I find the Parking Rules and Regulations? 

  • You can find them on the Parking Services Homepage. There are two PDF files on that, "Parking Rules and Regulations" and "Sidewalk Safety and Bicycle Regulations".

How long does it usually take for a bike pass to be approved?

  • It usually takes about a business day. Once they have approved your request, they will send you an email so you can pick up at the Kimball building. See Parking Services for more information. 

What are the campus parking rules during breaks?

  • During all breaks, parking permits are not required. However, students are still not allowed to park overnight on campus even during these breaks.

 

Student Parking 

How do I purchase my permit online?

  • You can fill out the Parking Permit Request on the BYU-I webpage when logged into your BYU-I account. You will receive a confirmation email when your permit is ready for pickup. You will need your I-Number and vehicle information if it isn't already on your account. 
  • Credit and debit cards are accepted for online purchases and permit purchases will be charged to your Personal Account. 

Where do I pick up my permit? 

  • At the beginning of the semester, you can pick up your permit at the bowling alley of the Manwaring Center (MC). You will need either your I-number or the QR code from the confirmation email.
  • After the first three days of the semester, you will need to pick up your permit from the Parking Services office located at Kimball 150-H. 

How do I purchase a permit in person? 

  • Please purchase your permit online unless you receive an error while trying. 
  • You can purchase a permit at the Parking Services office located at Kimball 150-H. 
  • When the permit is handed out, the charge will be on your student account and you can pay it at Accounting services. 
  • You can pay for the permit online through your personal account with a card, or with cash and check at the Accounting Services cashier's window. 

Can I have more than one parking pass?

  • You are only allotted one parking permit from the university.
  • You shouldn't have more than one current pass attached to your account, and if you do, you will be asked to return the extra permit/ 
  • The only exception is if you live at University Village. UV passes may be used to park in Economy, but you may also have another pass. 

Can I buy a permit if I have unpaid citations? 

  • If you have unassigned citations you will need to get them assigned by contacting Parking Services at 208-496-3030.
  • Any unpaid citations you have will create a financial hold on your account at the end of the semester and will prevent the release of your official transcripts. 

How do reserved permits work? 

  • You can reserve a parking pass via Student Express when registration opens. 
  • You have one week into the semester to pick up your reserved permits before they are refunded to you and put back up for sale. 

Where can I use my campus housing permit? 

  • You can park in your housing lots and in Economy lots on campus. Economy parking includes Lots 28, 27, 26, 19, and the eastern half of Lot 25. All other lots are off-limits. 
  • You can refer to the BYU-I parking map for lot numbers.  

Are there different lots for students and staff? 

  • Some lots are only for staff parking and will be clearly marked with signs designating the lot as "A" permit parking.
  • Other parking lots may be divided between students and staff. In these lots, rows of faculty and student parking will be marked with signs. 

Can I use my friend's pass to park?

  • Permits in vehicles they are not attached to usually come back as lost or stolen. If your vehicle is displaying permits that aren't assigned to it, you may be booted.  

Can I use my spouse's pass to park? 

  • If Parking Services can connect you to your spouse, you are allowed to share permits. 

Can I switch parking passes? 

  • You can switch parking passes as long as the other pass you want is in stock. The last day to switch your pass is the last day you can return your textbooks. Special circumstances may allow you to exchange passes after that date. 

 

Faculty Parking 

Where do I get my permit? 

  • If you are a University Employee, you will need to pick up your permit in person at Kimball 150H. Permits are no longer mailed. 
  • If you are a new employee, you need to pick up a parking authorization sheet from HR in Kimball 226. Fill out the form and request the permit at 150H. 

Who can use my employee permit?

  • As an employee, your immediate family members that currently live with you are able to use your permits. 

Are there different lots for students and staff to park?

  • Faculty and staff can park anywhere in a lot except for service stalls, IT vehicle stalls, visitor stalls, and handicap stalls (unless they hold a current handicap permit). 
  • When you are using your secondary permit, if you have one, you are only allowed to park in the lots that correspond to its type. For example, a North secondary permit would be cited if in a South  lot. 

What can departments do to make parking accommodations for individuals doing business in their offices?

  • Departments can request Visitor Permits from the Parking Services site for those who have business on campus.
  • Please request them one business day in advance. If you are unable to request them in advance, you can request them and pick them up at Kimball 150H. 

Can employees park University vehicles in regular lots without a permit? 

  • In some lots there are reserved stalls for service and IT vehicles, however, University vehicles won't be cited for parking in regular stalls. 

How many passes can I have? 

  • Adjunct faculty only receive one temporary A permit. Adjunct faculty must renew their permit when they renew their contract. 
  • Full-time faculty receive one long-term A permit and if they have a second vehicle, their choice of either a North or South secondary permit. 
  • You can buy additional North and South permits at the student rate. 
  • Secondary permits act the same as student permits, neither can park in A lots. Please be aware of signage when parking.

 

Visitor Parking 

Where can I park? 

  • Visitors can park anywhere on campus. If you are parking outside of a designated visitor stall, you will need a pass, Visitor Permits are free.
  • If you can't request the pass one business day in advance or don't have access to a printer, a visitor pass can be picked up at the Parking Services office located at Kimball 150H. 

How long can I park on campus? 

  • You can park on campus all day. Night-time parking (1:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m.) requires an overnight permit, which can also be requested at the Parking Services office. Overnight parking on campus is only allowed for students with long-term permits, and students and faculty who are leaving on a school sponsored event.

Do I need a campus permit if I'm not affiliated with but always on campus? 

  • If you are on campus for extended amounts of time for things such as community-hosted classes, library access, etc. you can get registered as a community patron. This will allow you to park anywhere on campus without a parking pass. 

What do I do if I received a citation but I'm not affiliated with the school? 

  • Parking Services does not collect on fines unless the patron is a student, faculty, or immediate family member (living in the same home). These citations can be waived upon request and proof of identity. 

 

Event Parking 

How is University approved event parking handled? 

  • If an event is happening on campus, the department planning the event will include Parking Services in the planning of the event and contact their office to close a lot(s) or portions of a lot. It is the department's responsibility to inform attendees of parking arrangements. 
  • Parking Service officers only direct traffic for the Christmas concert, certain devotionals, and graduation. Departments are responsible for finding their own traffic coordinators. 

How do I reserve a lot for an event? 

  • Any reservations must be approved through the scheduling office. If you plan to have a lot closed or if you have approval for a lot closure, please inform Parking Services in advance and involve them in planning for the event. 

How long can I reserve a lot? 

  • This depends on why you are reserving the lot. Maintenance work may require extended reservations, but the duration however long must be approved by the school administration. 
  • For day reservations, parking officers will block off the lot before 4:00 a.m. For extended reservations, lots may need to be reserved by section. 

 

Citations

How do I appeal a citation? 

  • You can appeal citations within 14 days of receiving them. You can view your citations by going to the View or Appeal a Parking or Sidewalk Safety Citation site, which will take you to a list of your campus citations. In your appeal, explain your reasoning for why you believe your citation should be voided. 
  • A committee will review your appeal and will email their decision to you. They will either deny the appeal, reduce the fee, or accept the appeal. 

What is a ticket scam? 

  • This is the type of citation given when a ticket is found on a windshield that doesn't correspond to the current date and/or location of the vehicle. Often this is seen as an attempt to avoid more tickets and is, therefore, fraudulent behavior.
  • If you received a citation for a ticket scam and feel this is not the case, you may submit an appeal. 

Why was I booted? 

  • Vehicles are booted to identify the owner. The most common instances are booting after the third unassigned citation, having two campus permits in or on the vehicle, or not displaying a valid license plate. 
  • Boot removal is free. Once the condition for booting the vehicle is satisfied, the boot will be removed from the vehicle. 

What does the "10-28" in the comment of my citation mean?

  • This means that your plate was called in to make sure you were affiliated with the school. In most cases, if you come back as registered in the system as anything other than a community patron or contractor, you are cited. Visitors may have citations voided. 

Do I have to pay citations?

  • If you are a student, staff, or faculty member, yes. 
  • For students, outstanding fees may prevent the release of official transcripts or registering for classes. 
  • For faculty and staff, Financial Services may initiate their collection policies for unpaid fines. 
  •  Immediate family members (living in the same home) are also responsible for citations.

Where can I pay for my citations? 

  • Citations can be paid online through your Personal Account or in person at the Accounting Services cashier's window with cash or check. 

What can I do if I can't afford to pay my citations? 

  • The school will work with you, you can talk to Accounting Services to set up a payment plan. 
  • If you are a student, attending a one-time parking class on Thursday will get the more expensive of your first two tickets voided. 

How do I know if I got a parking ticket if there isn't a notice on my vehicle? 

  • Sometimes, parking notices fall off vehicles or are removed. However, the charge will still show up on your personal account. You will be notified through your BYU-I email letting you know you have received a citation. See View Parking Citations for a citation history. 

Will my citations be on my permanent record?

  • Parking Services is a BYU-Idaho institution, therefore only BYU-I will have your citation record history. Parking Services is unaffiliated with local, state, or government agencies. The citations, warnings, and boots received on campus will not go on a criminal record of any sort. 

What can I do if I have a medical condition that makes it hard to walk far on campus but I don't have a pass? 

  • You can get a doctor's note and either bring a hard copy to the Parking Services office or you can email a copy to parkingservices@byui.edu. If the doctor's note is valid, your driver's license will be copied, and a temporary handicap pass may be issued.
  • When these steps are completed, you will need to pick up your handicap permit at Kimball 150H. BYU-I issued handicap permits are only valid in BYU-I lots, it is not reported or affiliated with any other agency.
