Uploading Files to OneDrive
There are several different ways to upload files to OneDrive. Here are some of the most popular.
Drag and Drop
- Open OneDrive on the web.
- Using File Explorer or Finder, select the files/folders you would like to upload.
- Drag the selected files from File Explorer or Finder either over a folder you would like to place them in, or over white space to upload them to the current location.
Browse for Files
- While in your BYU-I OneDrive on the web, navigate to the folder within your OneDrive you want to upload your file to.
- Select Upload from the ribbon located near the top of the window.
- Select Files to upload either several files within a folder at once, or an individual file.
- Select Folder to upload a single folder.
OneDrive Sync Tool
This option is only available if you have synced your OneDrive to your computer.
- Select the files you would like to upload.
- Drag and drop the files to your OneDrive folder located in File Explorer or Finder.
- Ensure that the files have been successfully uploaded by checking OneDrive on the web.
- If your files did not upload please consider the following:
- Are you connected to the internet?
- Is your OneDrive Sync tool running?
- A larger file may take longer to sync to the cloud.
- Invalid characters, such as “#” or “%”, must be removed from the title of a file before it can sync to the cloud.
- Are you syncing to the correct OneDrive account?

Save to OneDrive
This option is only available in Microsoft Office programs.
1. Click Save As and select your OneDrive – BYU-Idaho location.
2. Enter the name of your file.
3. Select the folder you want to upload the file to, or press More options… to view
4. Select Save.
5. Ensure that the files have been successfully uploaded by checking OneDrive on the web.
a. If your files did not upload please consider the following:
i. Are you connected to the internet?
ii. Is your OneDrive Sync tool running?
iii. A larger file may take longer to sync to the cloud.
iv. Invalid characters, such as “#” or “%”, must be removed from the title of a file before it can sync to the cloud.
v. Are you syncing to the correct OneDrive account?
