Moving from a Personal OneDrive to BYU-I OneDrive
How to switch from using a personal OneDrive account to the OneDrive account provided by the University. A personal OneDrive account only has 5GB of storage while the University account provides a TB (1,000GB) of storage. Only school related files should be held in the BYU-I OneDrive account, and upon leaving the University, all files should be transferred to a personal file storage location.
Step 1: Remove BYU-I email from Personal Microsoft Account
1. Go to onedrive.live.com, and log in with your personal Microsoft credentials. NOTE: If you are redirected to a BYUI sign in page, you did not select to sign in with a Microsoft account.
2. Click your profile image icon on the top right of the site page.
3. Select My account > Your info > Manage your sign-in email or phone number
4. Follow the steps to receive/enter a security code.
5. Once complete, look under Account alias to check if your BYUI email is associated with your account.
6. If the email is listed, select Add email and add a personal email.
7. Once complete, set your newly added personal email as the primary alias.
8. Remove BYUI email.
Step 2: Migrate Files to BYU-I OneDrive
1. Open your personal OneDrive via the web.
2. If you have synced your personal OneDrive to your computer, skip to step 3.
3. Download necessary files to your computer.
4. Open your OneDrive provided by BYU-Idaho.
5. Upload your personal OneDrive files to your BYU-Idaho OneDrive.
Step 3: Switch Accounts on Sync Client (Optional)
1. Right click the OneDrive icon from your taskbar.
2. Select Settings.
3. Under the Account tab, select Unlink this PC under your personal account information.
4. If you have not yet added your BYUI OneDrive, click Add an account to do so.
