Canvas Retention Policy

Summary

- Information about the Canvas retention policy

Body

What You Need to Know

Beginning this summer, old Canvas courses will be deleted in phases. Eight years of legacy courses are slowing down Canvas. Removing them improves performance for you and for your students. If you are a faculty, you will need to move any course content that you want to keep into Campus Master course shells before your phase deadline. You can request one by visiting the FTC resource below.

  • By summer 2027, courses will remain available for only three semesters before deletion.
  • The campus Records Retention policy requires that student coursework be kept for only one year.
  • Master and Blueprint shells are not deleted. Student data and coursework are never stored in them.
  • Online masters will not be deleted, but online teaching sections will, so adjuncts should save reused announcements and content outside of Canvas.
